For the Alabaster Lovers, Global Stone Workshop (GSW) has Albalate del Arzobispo, a little Spanish town with the Castel on the very top…a fantastic destination.
Albalate is placed in world largest area of multi-colour alabaster quarries…
Location
Albalate del Arzobispo (2000 inhabitants) is located in the world’s largest Alabaster deposit, lavish in quality and quantity.
It accounts for 83% of the world’s production and exports to, among other countries, Italy, India and China.
With the Municipality’s support, Global Stone Workshops participants sculpt on premises that CIDA (Centro Integral para el Desarrollo del Alabastro) has built for professional stonemasons, with large workshops, teaching rooms, offices and kitchen.
The workshop is within walking distance, about 2 km, from Albalate.
The workshops are open to all levels of technical experience.
Start dates, and the length of stay is negotiable.

The Alabaster workshops start on 01st June 2026 and ends on July 04th 2026
Participants may come and go as they please but must follow the workshop
for at least ONE week.
The fee is 330€ for a six-day workshop at the hamlet of Albalate. It includes almost everything needed to carve the alabaster, Inspiration is the Participant’s problem.
Participants will get a personal insurance, a workspace, both hand tools and power, a little block alabaster, assistance if needed, suitable protective equipment.
We welcome a maximum of 10 participants at the same time.

Albalate del Arzobispo is connected by bus to Zaragoza, a beautiful old city reachable by train and bus from Madrid or Barcelona.

Studio Golondrina is set on the edge of the canyon in the hamlet of Cañada de Benatanduz. At an altitude of over 1400 meters, the village is the highest munincipality in the ancient area known as the Maestrazgo, one of Spain’s most isolated and geologically important areas.
Studio
The main carving stone is high-quality alabaster, freshly quarried in the lowlands of Aragon. The emphasis is on working by hand, with minimal use of power tools.
All income from the workshops supports Trio Uganda’s work in Africa.

Where to stay
Accommodation is at the village bar or in a shared house.
The workshop starts from June 1st to July 31st.
